Nature Division gets a Rules Makeover: Enhance, just Keep it Natural
The Nature Division just got an update to its sometimes misunderstood rules. At the recent national PSA conference, some key changes came to this category that give us a bit more flexibility for potential entries: HDR is now allowed, as is the digital blurring of the background.
Before people go hog wild (hogs without the "hand of man," of course) the stipulation is clear that both HDR and blurring need to look natural. The actual wording of the rules that has been added reads as follows: "Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content are permitted. All adjustments must appear natural."
So natural is the byword of the day when it comes to these changes (the full text of the rule can be read here), but it does give photographers a lot more leeway provided they don't "misrepresent the truth of the nature story."
